International Spinal Cord Awareness Day

16 May 2019

Blog, Clinical Negligence

The 17th May 2019 is International Spinal Cord Awareness Day. The day aims to raise awareness and understanding of spinal injuries as well as their impact, effect and treatment.

The spinal cord runs from the brain to the pelvis; it’s function is to carry messages from the brain to the rest of the body. It affects walking, breathing, movement, blood pressure and the control of the bowels and bladder. An injury to the spinal cord, through trauma, illness or infection, can affect these functions leading to loss of movement and control of these bodily functions. Each injury is unique to the suffer and can result in a lifelong injury.

Raising awareness helps provide information about sufferers, carers, and health professionals. For more information visit www.spinal.co.uk
