Probate and Administration of Estates

News, Wills and Probate

When someone dies, the decisions to be made and the action to be taken can be confusing. Dealing with the loss of a relative or a friend can be a difficult time and most people are unsure what action to take. At Williamsons we are here to help and give advice to anyone who requires our assistance.

If you are the person legally entitled to administer the estate (as an executor or a personal representative), you may need to obtain a Grant of Probate before you can begin to deal with the financial affairs of the deceased.

A Grant of Probate is a legal document that confirms an executor has the authority to deal with the deceased person’s assets. A Grant is not always needed, but it is necessary to deal with particularly valuable assets, such as property, shares and large amounts of money.

At Williamsons, we can guide you through the process of obtaining the Grant, which includes advising HMRC of whether any Inheritance tax is payable.

We can also administer the whole estate on your behalf as we appreciate that this can be complex and time consuming. We will complete any forms and applications for you, taking the stress out of ensuring that the legal formalities are complied with.

Contact us today on 01482 323697 to attend a free half an hour consultation at our Hull, Beverley, Bridlington or Driffield office.
