Can you get a Power of Attorney refund?

4 June 2019

News, Wills and Probate

If you registered a Lasting Power of Attorney or an Enduring Power of Attorney between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2017 you can get part of your application fee back.

How much you get depends on when the fee was paid and vary from £34-£54. If you paid the reduced fee you will get half the refund.

A donor or their attorney can make the claim and an Executor or Administrator can make a claim on behalf of someone who has died.

It takes up to 12 weeks to process and approve your claim and payment is made direct to your bank account.  If your claim is rejected, you can appeal the decision.

To make an application for a power of attorney refund, visit the governments website here or contact the Refund Helpline on 0300 456 0300 (option 6)

You must claim your power of attorney refund by the 1st February 2021.
