News, Our Community

This event is open to anyone who would like to learn more about Learning Disabilities, Autism, learning difficulties and complex health needs, and services available locally to support.

The event, organised by City Health Care Partnership in Hull, is a huge learning experience for anyone attending with opportunities to see what it might feel like to have Autism, Dementia and Learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, experience different ways people communicate and try out technologies/tools and resources that can support communication.

There will be over 200 stalls representing local and national services/organisations from birth through to end of life. Stalls will be zoned to make them more accessible. Zones include – Children’s, Adult, Day and Night time opportunities, Transition, Communication, Carers, Health and Benefits and Advice. For example in the children’s zone – ADHD and Tourette’s inclusion services, Headstart, Local offer, Downright Special, Sunshine House, Dyslexia Stars, KIDS, FISH/SENDIASS, Aim Higher, Wilf Ward, Portage, Local children’s Learning disability and mental health services, Children’s dentist & audiology etc.

Within the Health Zone you can meet staff from Hull Royal Children’s and Adults Emergency Department, get their blood pressure /height/weight checked, and learn about different health issues and health promotion. There will be an 80 foot inflatable bowel and a 15 foot pair of inflatable lungs and a sensory bus to increase interactive learning opportunities.

Stall holders at the event, staff teams attending, local groups, special schools, day services, mainstream schools and HEY’s NHS Choir have all been learning the Makaton to support a huge singing and signing flash mob that will take place at 11am on the day of the event. Jane has already been busy getting in some Makaton practice and is looking forward to this really fantastic event!
