Moving during lockdown?

The government have recently confirmed that during the lockdown commencing 5^th November 2020 the property market can continue to operate.

Unlike last time England went into lockdown, this time the government won’t ban house moves, providing that the social distancing rules are observed.

A tweet from Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick said: “Q: Can I still move house? A: Yes – the housing market will remain open throughout this period. Everyone should continue to play their part in reducing the spread of the virus by following the existing guidance.”

This can be seen as good news for potential home buyers in England who wish to take advantage of the current stamp duty holiday which is in place until March 2021. The stamp duty holiday was introduced in July to help enhance the property market in the hope that potential homebuyers would not put their property transactions on hold due to the pandemic. Under the new rules, stamp duty is no longer payable on the first £500,000 of a property.
