Jordan Taylor heads to Karate championships

Jordan Taylor, 22 years old, from Hull has been selected to represent England, in Karate, at the European Championships in March 2019.

Jordan started karate when he was nine years old at a local primary school in Hull and he has continued his training ever since. He was first selected on to the Junior England Kata Squad in 2016 for the Junior European Championships in Bulgaria.

He has competed in many K1 and SeriesA events over the past couple of years and has enjoyed having the opportunity to compete amongst some of the best athletes from all around the world. Jordan’s current focus is Team Kata where he has competed at the last two Senior European Championships in Turkey and Serbia. His team are looking to compete as much as possible around the world at K1 and SeriesA events.

In 2018 he had the opportunity to compete at his biggest karate competition to date, the 24th Senior World Championships which was held in Madrid. Jordan and his team spent many weekends preparing for the championships and were able to get through the first round winning 5-0 and then unfortunately were knocked out of the competition in the second round narrowly losing 3-2.

They have since been selected to represent England at the 54thEuropean Karate Championships in Guadalajara, Spain where the aim is to have further success as a team and to gain a podium finish at the championships.

Karate is a self-funded sport and it is therefore very difficult for the athletes to fund their travel to events to gain points for Olympic ranking. Whilst most of these costs are paid for by the athlete themselves it is vitally important they are able to find local businesses to support them financially.

Williamsons Solicitors are happy to say we have sponsored Jordan a small amount to help cover some of his travel costs and we hope to be able to support him again in the near future. We are all wishing Jordan well in the European Championships in March and we will be keeping up to date with his progress.
