Sue Ryder Holme Hall centre gains £6,500 from fundraising walk

Walking 1,140 miles between them, a group of more than 50 lawyers, friends and family from Williamsons Solicitors have raised £6,500 for an East Yorkshire charity.

For the second year, the Hull firm supported the Sue Ryder Holme Hall Care Centre in the Yorkshire Wolds Challenge charity walk.

The centre provides compassionate long-term residential and respite care for up to 37 adults with challenging conditions including multiple sclerosis, strokes, acquired brain injuries, Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

Deborah Rack, area fundraiser for Sue Ryder, said: “It was truly a supreme effort. The money Williamsons have raised could pay for the running of our minibus for fourteen months allowing our residents to go out on trips to places that many of us take for granted: swimming, the theatre or just to the local garden centre for a cup of tea, lunch or a change of scenery.

“It certainly helps those in our care to continue living despite the challenges of their condition. Our thanks to everyone who signed up and raised this incredible total.”

Jane Longhorn, a senior lawyer at Williamsons Solicitors, said: “We have beaten our target of £4,500 from last year, which is fantastic news. It was a privilege to be able to do it for Sue Ryder, which does such an amazing job.

“While this is an incredibly worthwhile cause, the walk also represented a good physical challenge for all of us who took part.”

Starting and finishing at Brantingham, the fundraisers did either a 12, 18 or 30 mile route on a hot Saturday at the start of July.

The walk took them through local villages, woodland, country tracks and included a few stiff climbs such as the notorious Spout Hill. Named after an old water spout at the bottom, the road climbs steeply up, rising more than 300ft in a short distance.
