Wonderful Amy Moth Auction!

Williamsons Solicitors have been proud sponsors of the Sailors Childrens Society Sportsman’s Lunch for many years. The event has raised a considerable amount of funds for the disadvantaged children of seafarers that the Society helps, providing basic assistance such as school uniforms when a family are hit by a life changing event.  This year, in the City of Culture, Williamsons have very kindly donated the Amy Johnson Moth for auction at the lunch which follows the local Hull theme.  The Society is currently appealing for donations of other local prizes to auction at the lunch which has historically raised up to £30,000 on the day. Although the lunch is again completely sold out, early bids and telephone bids will be accepted and interested parties are therefore asked to call Wendy Fish at the Sailors Childrens Society on 01482 342331 or email wendy.fish@sailorschildren.org.uk

If you want to see the moth in it curret location then you can visit the Williamsons office in Hull on Lowgate where it is still bust attracting tourist photos on a regular basis.

About the Design:
The Wonderful Amy is inspired by 1930s design and Amy’s love for both flying and fashion. Her plane is flying towards a stained glass sun leaving behind it a trail of fabric and flags, representing the countries she flew to. The logos of the Gipsy Moth, the ATA and Hull’s coat of arms can also be seen in the design. The artist has also featured a fish pattern originally seen in fabric, reminiscent of the 1930s to represent the oceans and the fish merchant business run by Amy’s family.

About the Artist:
Carolyn Short graduated in 2000 with a degree in illustration. Since university she has worked as a community artist, working with schools and local art providers. Her work is mainly 3D and mixed media based. In 2015 she designed and painted two barons for Lincoln’s Barons’ Charter Trail. Carolyn lives in Stallingborough near Grimsby with her cockapoo, Bingo.
