Differently Abled Event – Sepsis Awareness

Our Clinical Negligence Team attended the Differently Abled Event at the Bonus Arena in Hull. We spoke directly with the NHS Trust and asked questions on how we can spread the awareness of sepsis and the NHS team advised us about “What every parent needs to know about Sepsis”.

Sepsis is a serious complication of an infection. Without quick treatment, sepsis can lead to multiple organ failure and death. A quarter of survivors live with permanent life changing after effects. 25,000 children are affected by sepsis each year in the UK. Signs of Sepsis for children under 5:

  • Skin is mottled, bluish or pale
  • Child is very lethargic
  • Feels abnormally cold
  • Breathing is fast
  • Rash does not fade when pressed
  • Has a fit or convulsion

In a recent article posted by the BBC, Melissa Mead‘s son William died of blood poisoning following a chest infection in 2014. It shows the importance of spreading the awareness of sepsis.
