Number of fatal dog attacks increasing

15 April 2015

News

Unfortunately, the number of fatal dog attacks is on the rise after recent reports of more vicious dog attacks on children.

According to Vet Scott Miller, “It’s not just pitbulls or rottweilers that should be considered dangerous. The truth is that no dog, whatever their breed, is ever safe to be left alone with a baby or child. No matter how well-trained, they will revert to their natural instincts if they feel threatened or in danger.”

It comes after the tragic dog attack on six-day-old Eliza-Mae Mullane earlier this year, just one week after 11-month-old Ava-Jayne Corless was tragically killed by a pitbull terrier as she slept at her house in Blackburn. And just last year, four-year-old Lexi Hudson was also killed by her family’s bulldog.

Sadly, our Personal Injury Team have been instructed to act on behalf of children who have been injured as a result of dog attacks, often by pets belonging to family or friends.  Some of the known signs experts tell us that a dog is not comfortable in a situation are:

1.  Licking his lips

2.  Showing the whites of his eyes

3.  Panting when not overheated

4.  Turning his head away
