Head of the Have you always been involved in the legal world of Hull?
For most of my working life, yes.
How long have you worked as a solicitor at Williamsons?
I came to Williamsons with my Department in January 2000. New millennium, new beginning.
What is your main role in the business as Head of the Criminal Defence Team?
With a team of 20, there is always plenty to do. An immense amount of time is spend on compliance with regulations, training and developing staff, making sure the advice and representation we provide is first class, and of course court work.
Can you tell me more about what you offer potential clients at Williamsons?
As a firm, we cover almost the whole range of Legal services. So for example, a potential client with a speeding ticket, who is having matrimonial problems and is about to move house, but wants to make a will before doing so to safeguard the business and then has an accident on the way to the appointment , could actually spend the whole morning at Williamson’s and see a variety of experts to deal with each of these problems.
What makes Williamson’s unique?
I think the range of services the firm is able to offer.
You offer many service’s- what is your strongest and why?
This is quite a difficult question, because our strongest may change regularly depending on what business comes in and the clients wishes. There may be an influx of property transactions or divorces, or people in trouble.
And finally do you have any advice for aspiring “Legal Eagles” reading this interview in Hull?
Study and work very hard and learn how to manage your time, to make sure you can fit everything in and meet deadlines. Being a lawyer is more than just a job I’m afraid. It’s almost a way of life in that you must be prepared to give up so much time to do what is necessary for the all important client.
