Being cooped up with the same person for long periods of time can lead to boredom and a desire for change.  It is easy to see how this can translate into desire for a fling or a new relationship due to lack of stimulation or novelty.  During lockdown couples have been thrown together having to make an instant adjustment to their lives without previous experience of one another and tensions in couples’ relationships have been inevitable.

Couples have said they feel angry with their partner because of the stress of living, and often working, in the same house and they have had arguments about it.  They have struggled as the pandemic has impacted on their ability to spend time with their friends and family, they have not been able to enjoy going to the pub, the theatre, restaurants and holidays.  They have not been able to participate in sporting events.

All in all the anxiety of living through a global disaster, combined with the peculiar stresses of being stuck at home together and business difficulties, has proved to be toxic for a lot of relationships.
