Hats for Headway 2022

Hats for Headway Day on 20th May is a day for supporters to come together to help Headway improve life for brain injury victims by wearing their wackiest hats to work!

Brain injury is something that can happen to anybody. People most commonly get a brain injury from a fall, vehicle crash or an assault. Even after a minor head injury, brain function can be temporarily impaired. These impairments can lead to headaches, dizziness, depression and memory problems. Whilst most people are symptom free after a few weeks, the more severe the injury, the more pronounced the effects can be. These injuries can lead to complex long-term problems. The likeliness of a brain injury may seem scarce but in 2016, 348,453 admissions to the hospital with acquired brain injury were made. That is 531 per 100,000 of the UK population. With such a high figure, a foundation like Headway is a requirement.

Headway is a UK wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury by providing vital support and information services. In addition to the services, Headway has a network of groups and branches across the UK providing services including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, societal re-integration and community outreach to survivors and families. The work Headway does is vital in assisting those who have faced brain injury.

One of Headway’s objectives is to campaign to increase awareness and reduce incidence of brain injury. Headway also offers assistance to those who have suffered brain injury and can assist those who have undergone brain injury through medical malpractice. Williamsons Solicitors are a strong supporter in Headway’s initiative and vision. Our very own Wayne Walker, AVMA (Actions against Medical Accidents) member and Vice President of the Hull Law Society is a Committee Member at Headway Yorkshire & East Riding. We at Williamsons Solicitors aim to assist and support our community by getting involved with fundraisers, raising awareness and assisting those who have experienced acquired brain injury.

#HatsForHeadway is a campaign by Headway to raise awareness to brain injury. Today we undertook a funky hat and dress down fundraiser in the hopes that we are able to raise money for this great cause and have a fun time doing it. The wackiest hat won a prize too!

The Compensation department at Williamsons Solicitors, were happy to get involved with raising money for Headway. Our engagement helps us to understand, specialise in advising, representing and supporting individuals, and their families, who have sustained an a acquired brain injury. If you have suffered a brain injury as a result of an accident/incident, Headway is the charity to contact. If you require any help, please do contact us through our website.
