June is SANDS Awareness Month

It is SANDS Awareness Month (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity), throughout the month of June, where the charity are spreading the awareness of stillbirth and neonatal death and the everlasting impact experienced when a precious baby dies during pregnancy, at birth or shortly afterwards.

For the majority of women giving birth is a joyous occasion.  However, there is an increasing number of women, as a consequence of some incompetence, whether by the midwife or attending doctor, injuries, both maternal and baby, can occur. These birth injuries can range from minor (some maternal bruising), to catastrophic/fatal.

In our experience, very often, birth injuries can be avoided by the midwife and/or doctor if properly monitored throughout labour/delivery and being alert to any complications that may arise during. If these are not monitored, either mother, baby or both could suffer severe problems or subsequently death.

Williamsons Solicitors takes this opportunity to spread the awareness and importance of SANDS Awareness Month to help support those whose lives have been affected. It is hoped that bringing these tragic events to the attention of the Hospital it will help reduce or prevent the same occurring to many more mothers.

You can become involved this month with SAND charity with the charity walks. You can visit the SANDS website to get involved.
