Employee diagnosed with mesothelioma after working for four hull shipyard

2 December 2021

Williamsons Solicitors was successful against the Hull’s shipping industry obtaining compensation for our client for exposing him to asbestos fibres during the 1960s and 1970s.

Williamsons Solicitors - Industrial DiseaseOur client was employed with various companies namely Globe Engineering (Hull) Limited, Drypool Group Limited, Dawnays Limited, Richard Dunston (Hessle) Limited and Combustion Engineering Limited. During his employment with these companies, he was worked as a welder and would remove, with no PPE, asbestos used for lagging the pipes on ships.

Our client had been a very independent man who lived alone for 25 years of his life. He could shop, garden and often went on holidays. As the symptoms worsened, he was unable to do these things and had to be cared for.

Industrial Disease - Occupational Lung DiseaseIt is not always common to see the signs of mesothelioma straight away after exposure to asbestos. Our client did not start to see common symptoms until many years later; he started to suffer with shortness of breath, fatigue and problems with his chest. The diagnosis for mesothelioma was thereafter made.

The client, under the advice of his doctor, contacted Williamsons Solicitors and we started his claim but he unfortunately deteriorated very quickly and sadly passed away during the course of this claim. However, Williamsons Solicitors were able to continue with investigating his claim on behalf of his family.
