Charity Spotlight for Baby Loss Awareness Week

Baby Loss Awareness Week 2025 takes place from 9th – 15th October 2025. This is a time for the baby loss community to come together to remember and raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss.
15 babies are stillborn of due soon after birth in the UK every day through complications, miscarriage or illness.
This is a devastating life changing event. It is important to support and acknowledge the mental and physical wellbeing of yourself and others bereavement journey.
There are multiple bereavement charities that offer support and comfort to anyone who has been affected by pregnancy and baby loss.
Sands (The Stillbirth & Neonatal Death Charity)
Sands is a charity that works to prevent babies’ deaths and support families affected by pregnancy loss or baby death.
They offer free support and offer resources and online communities for bereaved families.
Sands National Helpline is free to call on 0808 164 3332. They can also be contacted by email at helpline@sands.org.uk. Their experienced staff offer confidential support.
If you live in Hull and surrounding area, there is local support from Hull & East Yorkshire Sands who can be contacted by email at hulleastyorkshire@sands.org.uk. They also have monthly support groups on the first Wednesday of each month from 7.30pm-9.30pm at Holiday Inn Express, 80 Ferensway, Hull, HU2 8LN.
Tommy’s (The Pregnancy & Baby Charity)
Tommy’s is the largest UK charity researching the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications, miscarriage, stillbirth & Premature birth.
Tommy’s fund ground-breaking research to identify why pregnancy goes wrong. Tommy’s Midwives’ Helpline is for people who have had any type of pregnancy loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy or termination for medical reasons. The midwives are specialists who support you, including mental health and pregnancy after loss. They can be contacted on 0800 0147 800 or by email at midwife@tommys.org
Abbie’s Fund
In Hull, support for baby loss is available through Abbie’s Fund. This is a charity set up by Katy & Paul, the parents of Abbie Grace Cowell who was born sleeping on 1st October
2010. The charity provide memory boxes for the Maternity Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary’s Women & Children’s Hospital to give to parents who have lost babies to provide some comfort. Abbie’s Fund can be found at www.abbiesfund.co.uk or on their Facebook Page.
Chasing Rainbows Charity
Chasing Rainbows is a local charity based in Hull & East Riding who offer support to those experiencing pregnancy and baby loss. They provide a safe space, a listening ear and a connection for those navigating loss and infertility.
Their charity is to raise awareness and understanding of fertility, pregnancy loss and recurrent miscarriage and its physical, medical, psychological or social effects on women.
