Movember 2023

1 November 2023

News, Our Community

Movember is the time to join with our colleagues, friends, brothers, fathers and partners to show that men’s health matters.

This month at Williamsons, our Clinical Negligence department will be sharing a selection of articles to raise awareness on men’s health issues.

20 years ago, the idea for Movember charity was born and has taken on the three biggest health issues affecting men; mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Movember aims to make change by giving men the facts of the conditions, creates services that are designed to work for men and listen to the community.

Men’s Mental Health – Suicide is complex, distressing and unfortunately, on average, 1 man every minute dies from suicide. Movember looks to focus on prevention of suicide in men and earlier intervention. Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and Andy’s Man Club are local charities who are able to provide support men through the stigma of mental health.

Prostate Cancer – With over 1.4 million men diagnosed annually with prostate cancer, it is the most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst men. Movember have worked with researchers and experts to breakthrough prostate cancer.

Testicular Cancer – Most common cancer in young men. It is important for men to know what is normal. Movember focus on getting men back to living full and healthy lives.

You too can aid the cause by supporting the men in your life by starting the conversation. Think ALEC (Ask, Listen, Encourage Action and Check In) or visit Movember Conversations.
